Your Role in Their Crisis at Pennsylvania Counseling Services

Free | 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Friday, June 27 | 200 N. 7th St., Lebanon

This course will educate attendees on how to navigate crisis situations through exploring not only what a crisis may look like amongst a number of different demographics, including the justice-involved population, but also through self-assessment and introspection. With the usage of education, simulation, and discussion, attendees will learn the basic symptoms of common mental illnesses, signs of crisis escalation, and skills to assist in the maintenance and de-escalation of a crisis. The group will explore themselves, learning more about their own possible biases, triggers, and responses to high-intensity distress. Having accurate knowledge of ourselves, as well as those in need, offers us the best chance to safely manage crises for all parties involved.

*All attendees will receive a copy of one of Louis’ books, to be signed by the author at the conclusion of the training. Please be sure to register ahead of time at pacounseling.com/training.

Objectives:

1) Describe personal internal reactions to crisis situations (distress, conflict avoidance, fear responses, biases, etc.) and how those reactions may impact the effectiveness of de-escalation attempts.

2) Identify symptoms, signs, and behaviors associated with escalation, crisis, and de-escalation.

3) Exemplify an ability to utilize de-escalation skills discussed in training (mindfulness, active listening, etc.) during simulations.

Louis Bianco has devoted his life to mental wellness and the mental wellness of his community. Classifying himself as an “edutainer,” Louis has used his credentials, experience, and creativity to spread messages of hope and educate the public through the very unique perspective of someone who lives with a mental illness and also works in the mental health field. Diagnosed with mental illness and institutionalized as early as age 15, Louis has since committed his life, personally and professionally, to this cause. With endeavors ranging from speaking publicly throughout the state, working with college-level students within numerous human service disciplines, publishing books, serving on boards, writing and producing a musical, and providing care to the mental health community of central PA, as a nurse, certified peer support specialist, volunteer, and advocate, Louis continues to challenge the way we look at mental wellness and offer mental health care.

This training is funded in part by a competitive grant awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs.

This class is the fourth of our Sheepy Series, where you will learn this age-old process from start to finish. Learn how to clean fleece, prepare it for spinning, spin on a drop spindle, and then spin on a spinning wheel. Learn how to dye this beautiful fiber using natural dyes over an open fire. With these dyed fibers, you can learn to warp a loom and weave items.

In this class, we will focus on making a scarf. Experience the sense of pride, accomplishment, and the tugging of the past by joining us in this endeavour.

This class is two days, two hours each day. We have donated yarn, but you are more than welcome to bring your own for your creation. You can bring your own loom or rent one for $10, thanks to the Walk in Arts Center in Schuylkill Haven. Request when booking your ticket for the class. Please send us a message to register!

Memorial Amphitheater at Coleman Memorial Park

Christian music artist Joseph Habedank is a two-time Grammy®-nominated, three-time GMA Dove Award-winning, and six-time fan-voted Soloist of the Year. Joseph has a powerful testimony of recovery from drug addiction that has been featured on FoxNews.com’s Spirited Debate, TBN’s Praise the Lord, and in such publications as Billboard Magazine, CCM Magazine, and Glenn Beck’s The Blaze. He has shared his songs in some of America’s greatest churches and venues, including the Brooklyn Tabernacle, Charles Stanley’s First Baptist Atlanta, The Grand Ole Opry, and the historic Ryman Auditorium. On the heels of his critically acclaimed debut solo release, Welcome Home, he was awarded New Soloist of the Year in 2014. His sophomore release, Resurrection, was the first album released by a solo artist to receive the GMA Dove Award for Southern Gospel Album of the Year and garnered his first Grammy® nomination for Roots Gospel Album of the Year. His 2019 release, Deeper Oceans, was nominated for Southern Gospel Album of the Year at the 50th annual GMA Dove Awards and earned him a second Grammy® nomination for Roots Gospel Album of the Year. Deeper Oceans also includes two number-one songs, “Shame On Me” and “Goliath.”

Joseph believes his most recent album, Change Is Coming, is his most important one to date. He says, “The topics that I chose to address when writing this record are very near and dear to my heart. I co-wrote this album while our nation was in shutdown due to the pandemic, and I think it forced me to be even more introspective than usual. I felt a stronger sense of urgency. I wanted to talk about things that other people weren’t talking about in their music; things like addiction, religion, holiness, Judas, and even the idea that Jesus was a rebel. These aren’t notions that many singer-songwriters choose to sing about, but I felt it was time to talk about some of the hard stuff. On the flip side of that, I wanted to offer a lot of hope on this record. Don’t be surprised to hear a song or two about the second coming, heaven, and, of course, redemption. Most importantly, when you listen to this album for the first time, I challenge you to not just skim through it, but rather, take the time to fully listen to the lyrics and the message behind these songs, because something great is on the horizon.”

Change Is Coming features two number-one songs, “Religion Isn’t Working” and “Child of the King,” and was awarded Southern Gospel Album of the Year at the 2021 GMA Dove Awards. Since its release in 2021, Joseph has had the privilege of carrying the message of these songs all across the country, proclaiming the hope that is greater than addiction, the relationship that far exceeds religion, and that Jesus is the change … and Change Is Coming.
