The Community Health Council of Lebanon County today announced a special Summer Point-In-Time (PIT) Count will be held the evening of August 6, 2025. Teams of volunteers will canvas designated areas around the county to connect with unsheltered individuals and families.

Volunteers will check-in at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on 12th Street in Lebanon at 5:45 p.m., followed by a brief training at 6:15 p.m. Canvassing then starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. and will wrap up by 8:30 p.m.

A Point-In-Time (PIT) Count provides an estimate of homelessness in a community by tallying those who are unsheltered on a specific night. This snapshot of homelessness helps communities measure their progress in reducing homelessness and connect people in need to services. This will be Lebanon County’s second summertime PIT Count.

“We’re only required to conduct a PIT Count in January,” explained Mike Ritter, Lebanon County Coalition to End Homelessness Chair, “but doing one in summer too helps us capture the seasonality of homelessness. Ultimately, we can make better informed decisions for our community.”

The Health Council is currently seeking volunteers to conduct the canvassing. No experience is required. Local professionals will train and support the volunteers.

“The more volunteers we have, the more ground we can cover,” said Kim Briggs, organizer of the count.

Individuals and teams are encouraged to sign up by August 1 at https://communityhealthcouncil.com/homelessness/pit-count/.
