At its Wednesday meeting, the Millcreek Township Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to pay the first installment of $173,565 to Woodland Contractors for the salt shed project.
The 12-foot-high, 45- by 60-foot concrete shed will contain three bays, each with a capacity of 300 tons.
The project will be paid for primarily or entirely using funds from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, which the township needed to dedicate to a project by the end of 2024. The $414,000 allotted to Millcreek in ARPA funds will go both toward this project and a walking path to be constructed in a field adjacent to Abbey Lane and Progress Drive.

Though work on the shed has not yet been completed, supervisors expressed satisfaction with work done on the project so far.
Supervisors also heard from Tom Urban of the Millcreek Rod and Gun Club, who informed them that a “Welcome to Newmanstown” sign that was commissioned by the club and installed in the 1970s is deteriorating.
Urban said the club is willing to replace and maintain the sign, and he showed supervisors a draft version of the new sign. A resident suggested the club choose burgundy, the color historically representing Newmanstown, for the background.

Supervisors unanimously agreed to approve the request from the Millcreek Rod and Gun Club, specifying that the club must maintain the sign and obtain permission from the property owner.
