Weaber Lumber filed a WARN notice with the state earlier this month indicating that it will lay off 145 workers at its distribution center at 25 Keystone Drive, South Lebanon Township.

According to the WARN notice, the layoffs will take place between Aug. 26 and Sept. 9.

BizNewsPA has reported that the company will shift work to its headquarters on Mount Wilson Road in South Annville Township. According to the BizNewsPA report, the layoffs will affect production workers, general laborers, supervisors, and skilled laborers.

“As with so many other manufacturers, we have been struggling with challenges in the housing market and with the impacts of inflation,” a spokesperson told BizNewsPA in a statement. “Home sales are down while mortgage rates remain high. Continued uncertainty in the overall economy has prompted consumers to delay building or purchasing a new home or renovating an existing home.”

The company told BizNewsPA that it will work with officials to support retraining and outplacement.

As also noted by BizNewsPA, the distribution center was sold by Weaber to a Michigan-based LLC in November 2024 for $15.5 million. The 177,00-square-foot warehouse is now re-listed at nearly $17 million.

In June, Weaber announced that its ChoiceWood subsidiary in Crawford County would be closing; 46 employees were said to be affected by the closure, according to the WARN notice, with an effective date between Aug. 25 to Sept. 8.

Weaber, a Lebanon County-based lumber company that weathered the 2009 recession, has evolved from its sawmill origins to become a major consumer products manufacturer with distribution reaching Home Depot stores nationwide.
