A 54-year-old Palmyra man has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, and harassment following an Aug. 16 incident involving a knife in Palmyra.
The Western Lebanon County Regional Police Department said in a statement Tuesday, Sept. 2, that officers had been dispatched to 8 N. Railroad St. at approximately 7:25 a.m. on Aug. 16.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, dispatch had been called by a woman who said that she was stabbed three times by the person she was living with, whom she identified as 54-year-old James S. Remmick of Palmyra. Upon arrival, police spoke with Remmick outside the apartment and then found a woman in the living room/sleeping area.
“While making my way to the area of the apartment that (the victim) was located in, I noticed blood trails on the floor and smear of blood on the walls made by someone’s hands/fingers,” arresting officer Dylan James Murphy said in the affidavit.
The affidavit says that the victim told officers she had a seizure that morning, lasting about 15 minutes, and after she came to from the seizure she asked Remmick to use his cellphone so she could call for a ride to a medical provider for post-seizure treatment.
The woman said Remmick would not allow her to use his phone so she attempted to get it out of his pocket by pulling on a lanyard.
“(The victim) advised that once Remmick’s keys hit the floor he picked up the keys which had a black and white digital camo folding knife attached to it,” says the affidavit. “(The victim) stated that Remmick got on top of her, flipped open the knife, and stabbed her in the left thigh and right calf.”
Police said they spoke with two other people in the residence who both stated that they did not see anything except Remmick on top of the victim. Neither individual knew that a knife was involved until they saw blood, according to the affidavit.
Remmick was arraigned Aug. 16 in front of Magisterial District Judge David R. Warner Jr. and was remanded to Lebanon County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail, which was set at $100,000. After waiving a preliminary hearing on Aug. 28, Remmick awaits trial.
