North Cornwall Township supervisors continued to review the draft 2026 budget at their meeting Tuesday, looking specifically at items pertaining to public safety.

Lebanon County Regional Police Chief Tim Knight said he was happy with the year’s police budget, with an expected increase from $2,246,604 this year to $2,369,702 in 2026.

Last month, chair Mike Wahmann explained that the township’s contribution to the police department increased by only 2.6% despite a 3% salary increase for officers, and attributed the smaller-than-usual increase in part to decreased overtime following regionalization.

Also discussed Tuesday were planned expenditures for public safety/code enforcement and planning/zoning, which saw increases from $40,660 to $41,260 and $69,650 to $71,440 respectively.

Supervisors also discussed a request from North Cornwall Commons for the township to accept street dedication outside of the normal timeframe. Ordinarily, street dedications are accepted in September to ensure the township receives state liquid fuel funds for the road in question.

North Cornwall Commons requested that the township be willing to accept dedication of new roads if they are fully completed by Nov. 1, and offered to reimburse the equivalent of the would-be liquid fuel funds if they are not granted.

After some discussion, supervisors opted not to act on the request, and said they planned to consider the request once construction was complete.
