Join us for an opening reception for The Secret Paris of the 1930s: Vintage Photographs by Brassaï.
Early 20th-century Paris was the setting for one of the greatest flowerings of creative expression in the visual arts. As with painting and sculpture, ambitious young photographers from around the world flocked to between-the-wars Paris. Among them was the Transylvanian-born Brassaï, whose evocative, inky black, and rare vintage photographs of night-time Paris are assembled from a private collection into this unforgettable exhibition.
The opening reception will feature refreshments and piano music by Michael Frentzen ’28. This exhibition is organized by art2art Circulating Exhibitions.
Image: Brassaï (Hungarian-French, 1899-1984), Fog, avenue de l’Observatoire, 1934, gelatin silver print, 9 1/8 x 11 inches. Collection of Michael Mattis and Judith Hochberg.

Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court. Her chief adversary is her former employer, Arthur Roeder, an idealistic man who cannot bring himself to believe that the same element that shrinks tumors could have anything to do with the terrifying rash of illnesses among his employees. As the case goes on, however, Grace finds herself battling not just with the U.S. Radium Corporation, but with her own family and friends, who fear that her campaign for justice will backfire.
Show dates are Friday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. Tickets are free for LVC students.
