Local residents can learn about heart health and receive free screenings at the Take Heart Community Health Expo, scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center’s North Hall, 80 Rocherty Road.

The free, all-ages event is part of American Heart Month, an annual observance aimed at raising awareness about cardiovascular disease, which remains the leading cause of death in the United States.

Three WellSpan specialists will deliver presentations throughout the evening. Dr. Edward Tadajweski, an interventional cardiologist, will discuss the new 2025 blood pressure guidelines at 5:30 p.m. The updated guidelines, released by the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association, emphasize earlier treatment and use a new risk assessment model to guide blood pressure management.

Dr. John Mingle, a neurologist, will speak at 6 p.m. about recognizing stroke symptoms and reducing risk. Dr. Adrienne Topic, an interventional cardiologist, will close the talks at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation on long-term heart risks for women who experienced preeclampsia during pregnancy.

Attendees can take advantage of free blood pressure and diabetes screenings. Children and adults can participate in fitness activities, kids’ games and a touch-a-truck display featuring First Aid & Safety Patrol, a fire truck and a K-9 unit. A heart function exhibit will showcase a real deer heart.

Davis Dog Farm will bring adoptable dogs to the event, and free popcorn and door prizes will be available.

Cool Beans Brew will be outside the Expo Center selling their famous coffee from 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 10.
