PennDOT is requesting public comment on plans to replace a Pleasant View Road bridge that crosses an unnamed tributary to Raccoon Creek in East Hanover Township.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has posted the plans online, according to a press release from PennDOT spokesman Dave Thompson.
According to the release, the $1.4 million project will replace the existing bridge with a precast concrete box culvert to provide “a continued safe and efficient crossing of Pleasant View Road” over the tributary.

The existing structure is a 25-foot single span, non-composite pre-stressed adjacent box beam bridge built in 1933, with the superstructure rebuilt in 1983. The existing curb-to-curb width of the bridge is approximately 26.6 feet.
The project is currently in the design phase, Thompson said in the release, and construction is expected to begin in March 2027 and finish by September.
The bridge will be closed during the four-month construction period. A 7.1-mile detour will be used to direct traffic around the closure using Jonestown Road, Route 22, Harrison School Road, and Mountain Road. This section of Pleasant View Road averages 191 vehicles per day, according to PennDOT.

The project also includes roadway approach paving including cross slope corrections, guide rail improvements, new pavement markings, and tree trimming, the release said. Overhead utilities are present at the site, and de-energization or relocation may be required during the work phase.
A digital version of the information will be available to view online through March 9. Comments on the project can be submitted through the website.
“The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project,” the release explained. “It is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project.”
The project documents can be made available in alternative languages or formats if requested. Contact project manager Adam Melewsky at 717-620-5942 or c-admelews@pa.gov for assistance.
