The National Weather Service in State College has issued a Winter Storm Watch for a portion of central PA, including Lebanon County, starting late Saturday night into Monday afternoon.

Heavy snow is possible, federal forecasters said, with potential total accumulation between 5 and 10 inches. Wind gusts as high as 35 mph could also come Sunday night into Monday, with hazardous conditions possible for the Monday morning commute.

Things aren’t final yet. Accumulation could be less – WGAL and ABC27 are forecasting at most 5 inches for Lebanon County and Accuweather says 2-4 inches. Or it could be more.

“There is still some uncertainty regarding the track of this storm,” said NWS in the winter weather message issued Saturday morning. “Any westward shifts in the track may result in higher snowfall amounts.”

Lebanon County Weather’s first call on Friday said, with a high degree of confidence, that we’ll see at least 5 inches, with up to 9 inches total expected of a wet, heavy snow.

Millcreek Township has already issued a snow emergency for Newmanstown in case the storm turns out worse than expected. Beginning Saturday at 4 p.m. and lasting until Monday at 6 p.m., all vehicles in the village of Newmanstown parked along snow emergency routes must be moved or be subject to fines and towing. Parking is available at the White Swan parking lot, no vehicles may be parked at the township building.

Rest assured though, warmer days are ahead, and spring planting season is just around the corner. “Regardless of how much snow falls Sunday, the strong late February sun angle will activate growth,” said Lebanon County Weather’s Justin Snyder in the Friday forecast.

Lebanon County Weather will issue its second and final call on Facebook later today.
