Alex Stanilla at Pho Bar & Grill

Genres and conventional approaches to songwriting are a thing of the past, a dying art. While this may be the bane and disapproval of many modern music listeners’ experience, an artist like Alex Stanilla uses this approach as inspiration. Stanilla’s music seems to be the result of the internet age and having access to a number of different forms of media at any time. Stanilla’s songs are equal parts electro-pop, hip hop, alternative rock, and jazz with an assorted number of glitches, synth howls, and shouted vocals making their way through the sonic landscape of his songs.

Stanilla’s latest album, Qualia, has been described as the lovechild of “The Beach Boys and Bastille,” and he’s described it as an “impression.” “It’s like making an experimental film, very little thought to how things should transpire but just going to the strangest places possible.” Stanilla already has another E.P. and a full-length ready to be released in the coming months and sees this time in his life as a “musical purge.” For anyone who likes their pop music homemade and created with a great deal of heart and intention, Stanilla’s music is highly recommended.

Quittapahilla Audubon Society Field Trip Walk at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area

The Quittapahilla Audubon Society will have a field trip on Saturday, April 4, along the Millstone Trail at Middle Creek for the observation of flora and fauna via a walk up the mountainside. Community Easter Egg Hunt at Zion Goshert’s United Church of Christ

Zion Goshert’s United Church of Christ will host an Easter egg hunt, rain or shine, with prize eggs. Weather permitting, there will also be barrel train rides.

Egg Rolling Contest at Isaac Meier Homestead

Free | 10 a.m., Saturday, April 4 | 525 S. College St., Myerstown

Every year, on the Monday following Easter Sunday, the White House opens up the South Lawn to crowds of children and their parents for the annual Easter Egg Roll. Beginning in the 1870s, children rolled their Easter eggs down a hill at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. While the main attraction may be the Roll itself—children push the eggs down a hill with spoons, a tradition begun in 1974 with spoons from the White House kitchen—in recent years, the lawn was packed with other activity stations.

This year, the Isaac Meier Homestead will join in the tradition of egg rolling at the Homestead on Saturday, April 12, with sign-up beginning at 12:30 p.m. and egg rolling starting at 1 p.m. Rules/guidelines: Age groups are 2-3; 4-5; 6-7; 8-9; 10-11; and 12-13 years. There will be 20 spots for each age group. There are no early sign-ups. You can only sign up children in your immediate family. Children must be present to sign up. Children from each age group will go home with their wooden egg. We will have a 1st place basket for each age group.

‘Spring in Stars Hollow’ at Book Bar

Are you ready to escape winter and jump right into a spring day in Stars Hollow? We’ve got you covered with a themed book signing, permanent jewelry pop-up, coffee, and fresh flowers!

We will host author Matthew A. Browning to discuss and sell/sign copies of his latest book, Gilmore Girls Pop Culture Reference Guide, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the perfect book for the biggest fan or the newbie bingeing the show for the first time. If you’ve ever been trying to keep up with those fast-talking Gilmore Girls, and they mention something, and you go, “Wait, what? Who?” then this reference guide is a must!

Studio Sevn will be here from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering a custom permanent jewelry experience. They provide a fun, elevated setting where guests receive a meaningful, lasting piece to wear every day, and they will have charms and connectors available that will be perfect for Gilmore Girls fans to pick out and add to their piece.

The Palmyra Greenhouse flower truck will be parked out front from 1-3 p.m. to help bring spring to our little Stars Hollow-themed event. There’s nothing like grabbing fresh flowers from your local, small-town florist to make you feel like you’re right in charming Stars Hollow!

And, of course, Book Bar will offer all the good book smells and “coffee, coffee, coffee,” including themed drinks! So, come by and live out your “Spring in Stars Hollow” dreams on Saturday, April 4.

‘The Happy Gilmore’ Experience at Coleman Memorial Park

250th Living History Event at Conrad Weiser Homestead

The 250th Living History Event focuses on the mid- to late 18th century and features a fly fishing demonstration, weather permitting. The Berks County Militia will be on hand to talk about their roll in Berks County during the time of the American Revolution.

The Conrad Weiser Homestead and Memorial Park is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in partnership with the Friends of the Conrad Weiser Homestead.

Lebanon County Master Gardeners’ Plant Sale at Lebanon Expo Center

This is a plant sale hosted by the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Lebanon County, featuring a wide variety of garden plants and gardening-focused items for sale. Proceeds will support the Master Gardener program’s local education and community outreach.

Mental Health Awareness Festival at Poplar Commons

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!

Join us as we celebrate the fourth annual Lebanon County Mental Health Awareness Festival on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the parking lot of 718 Poplar St., Lebanon. The event is free to attend and is open to all community members.

Connect to local services, and explore many resources with over 50 mental health and wellness vendors expected to participate. The event will also include baby goat and baby kangaroo cuddles, a snow cone wheel, free caricature drawings, and a live broadcast from Froggy 101 radio station. Vendors will have a variety of activities and giveaways. Each attendee will also receive a free hot dog, a bag of chips, and a drink provided by the Salvation Army, and the first 100 attendees will also receive a free drawstring bag!

Union Canal Day at Union Canal Tunnel Park

This festive event coordinated by the Friends of Union Canal Tunnel Park is a wonderful opportunity to shake off the winter blues while learning more about this hidden gem in Lebanon County.

There will be food trucks, vendors, and free entertainment. There will also be affordable games for kids, a basket raffle for adults, and fully narrated tours through the tunnel to keep the whole family entertained.

This event will be held rain or shine.
