On December 29, 2019, Anita Yolan (Ghares) Sauerwein entered into her Savior’s rest after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. One of the most remarkable things about Anita was that she was never bitter about her condition and readily flashed a golden smile; she always looked to Christ. Today, she is in paradise.
Anita strove to serve the Lord in all she did. She was a devoted wife and mother, taking an active part in nurturing her children and encouraging them in all of their pursuits. Before MS eclipsed her capacities, Anita enjoyed cooking, entertaining, and gardening, especially vegetable gardening. She took great delight in all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Anita was active in her church, over the years serving as youth group adviser and Sunday school teacher, singing in the choir and ringing hand bells.
Anita is survived by her husband, Lewis Edward Sauerwein III, and her four children, Susan Sauerwein Alexander (Andy), Leanne Sauerwein Knight (Clint), David Lewis Sauerwein (Lori), and Jennifer Sauerwein Crist (Jim) and 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger brother, Peter Ghares (Judie) and her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Sauerwein Black, and Sandra Sauerwein Nebel (Otto), and brother-in-law, Joseph Ries (Tish). Anita is preceded in death by her younger sister, Paula Helen (Ghares) Ries, and parents, John and Yolan Ghares.
Anita’s memorial service will be held on January 18, 2020, at 11:00 am at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (600 S. 12th Street, Lebanon, PA, 17042). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
