Ann Wakefield, 82, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, March 27, 2024, at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA, after a short, valiant fight with Glioblastoma.
She was born July 31, 1941, in Huntingdon, PA, to the late Clifton and Martha (Buchanan) Montgomery.
On June 17, 1958, Ann married the late Frank E. Wakefield, who preceded her in death on June 26, 2013. She looked forward to a heavenly reunion with the love of her life.
After graduating in 1959 from Captain Jack High School in Mt. Union, PA, Ann went on to earn her license in practical nursing. She worked as an LPN for many years, retiring from Cornwall Manor with 31 years of service. She attended Hill United Church of Christ (UCC) and was a member of the Lebanon Chapter #115 of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Mapleton Post #322 Memorial Home Association, and, for 71 years, the Mapleton American Legion Auxiliary Unit #322.
Ann enjoyed spending time with family and friends and sitting on her porch admiring the rose bushes Frank planted for her shortly before he passed away. An animal lover, she was especially fond of her beloved cat, Joey, and her grand puppies, Marty and Faith, along with the many pets waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge. She was also very fond of sweets and desserts, particularly Marlin’s fudge, Joann’s cakes, and Helen’s coconut Easter eggs. Among her pastimes were watching Penn State football games and engaging friends on Facebook.
Ann is survived by a son, Brian Wakefield, at home; a daughter, Brenda, wife of Wally Leader, of Hummelstown; and a granddaughter, Alex Leader, fiancée of Chad Hensor, of Levittown.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Ann’s memory to the Hill UCC, 3801 Hill Church Road, Lebanon, PA 17046, the Humane Society of Lebanon County, 150 N. Ramona Road, Myerstown, PA 17067, or the donor’s charity of choice.
