Barbara A. Light, 87, of Lebanon, our beloved mother, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, after a lengthy health decline.
Born in Richland, PA, she was the daughter of the late Helen (Stine) and Carlos Gabler. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Light in 2017, and her brother, Allen Gabler, who passed in 1994.
A 1952 graduate of Richland High School, Barbara worked at the Richland Shoe Factory before marrying Ralph and becoming a housewife and loving mother. Barbara enjoyed flower gardening, crafts, Roy Rogers movies and was one of the first people to support the adult coloring book craze. Heaven was missing this wonderful angel. Anyone who knew Barbara knows of her kind and gentle spirit. She was always positive and supportive and never complained even when circumstances were very bleak. She will be remembered as creative and artsy but quiet and caring inside and out, always putting others’ needs before her own.
Barbara’s family and friends will miss her more than words can say. She blessed everyone’s lives in many ways and we know her reward in Heaven will be great for all the sacrifices she made here on Earth. After raising her 3 children, she taught Sunday School for 20 years, cared for her elderly father, and then her husband as his health declined.
Barbara is survived by her son Mark (Jo Lyn) Light, Richland; daughter Marlene Gunnells, Lebanon; and Joyce (James) Hartman, Lebanon. Her grandchildren, Matthew (Heather) Light, Jonestown; Taylor and Thatcher Gunnells, Lebanon; Katie and Jason Light, Richland and her first great-grandchild Brayden Light, Jonestown.
A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled in the Rohland Funeral Home on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing to be held from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service. Private interment will be made in the National Cemetery at Ft. Indiantown Gap. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Grane Hospice Care 1200 Camp Hill Bypass Suite 205 Camp Hill, PA 17011.
