Barbara (Ambler) Noonan, 64, of Palmyra, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020, at the Hershey Medical Center, following a courageous battle with Myelofibrosis, a rare blood cancer.

Barbara was born on  Saturday, Apr. 28, 1956, to the late Walter and Vivian (Stewart) Ambler in Martins Ferry, Ohio. Barbara leaves behind a beloved husband of 37 years, Robert, and a devoted family; daughter, Sarah M. Tillett (Joshua), of Palmyra, six grandchildren: Logan, Sean, Paige, Carter, Madison, and Jake; a sister, Carol Leslie (Hugh), of Severna Park, MD, extended family, and caring friends. She was predeceased by her son, Michael Robert Noonan.

Barbara had an associate’s degree and spent many years as a mortgage underwriter. Throughout these years, professional colleagues became lifelong friends.

Barbara delighted in nature and loved birds and gardening. Her deck was always filled with multiple types of flowers and bird feeders. She knew exactly what type of food attracted her favorite birds and how to treat the soil for beautiful flowers. Barbara even provided a heated birdbath in winter for her “feathered friends.” She particularly loved hummingbirds and made sure they were taken care of, even in her absence.

She was a Christian woman who lived her life in the image of God. Barbara was a member of Montgomery United Methodist Church in Damascus, MD, and participated in many charitable activities.

Above all, Barbara treasured her family and friends. She was a loyal and loving wife and mother. Barbara was a selfless and caring person known for her sound advice and intense hugs. She always put others ahead of herself.  She cherished her family and stayed in constant contact with her friends. “Nama” always had time to play games, have crafts, or get messy doing activities with her grandchildren. As a child’s dream grandma, she attended sports and supported them in their interests. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but particularly by those who called her Nama.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted with the Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA  17078, 717-838-9211.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to a place where she devoted her time and that shared her heart; Mike’s Place. This fund was created in memory of her son to help men who are in recovery from substance use disorders. Barbara had a deep connection with the residents offering them moral support and endless prayers. The family will continue to support Mike’s Place and the men residing there.
