Barbara Manbeck Bauer, of Windermere, Florida, and Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, October 14th, after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on May 29, 1945, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Senator Clarence Manbeck and Eve Pysz Manbeck.
Barbara was a 1963 graduate of Northern Lebanon High School, Pennsylvania, and held degrees from Mansfield University, George Washington University, and Pennsylvania State University. She was employed by Temple University as an Assistant Professor and by the University of New Haven as Department Chair of Nutrition and Dietetics. She also assisted her father with his political campaign. In addition, Barbara worked for the School District of Philadelphia as a Grant Funding Writer and was a Consultant to the State of Connecticut as a Registered Dietician at Southbury Training School. She was a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics since 1985. Among her many charitable endeavors, she worked in community outreach venues such as the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.
Upon retiring, Barbara shared seasonal residency between Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania, and Windermere, Florida. Her professional and family interests reflected a strong bond with a loving family and friends, along with her love of animals. She is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania, and an associate member at Christ The King Lutheran Church & Preschool in Orlando, Florida.
She is survived by her husband, George Bauer, son, Andrew Manbeck Whitehill, sister, Alletta Manbeck Schadler, and several cousins.
Funeral services will be on Friday, October 21, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3050 S Pine Grove St, Fredericksburg, PA 17026. Internment will be at Altalaha Lutheran Church Cemetery Rehrersburg. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the church.
