Barbara T. Fischer, 68, of Lebanon, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at home. She was the wife of David W. Fischer.
Born in Union City, TN, on Dec. 11, 1957, Barbara was a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Ramer) Taylor.
In her younger years, Barb was an avid volleyball player and bowler, and found organized play wherever she landed alongside Dave as they moved around the world while Dave was active in the Air Force. During their 50 years together, Barb enjoyed spending days reading a mystery, watching Murder She Wrote together, and caring for her beloved cats, Ethel and Lucy, and dog, Maggie.
Barb loved learning about people and giving them spaces to gather and grow without judgment. “Everybody’s Second Mom” opened her home and nurturing nature to many friends and family over her time. She loved putting together the “Durnford Family Faire” games and reunion, adventuring with her granddaughter, Laurel, and helping to assemble the “Heroes of Angbad” guild in World of Warcraft as Wynndee the Warlock.
In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by her children, Nicholas Fischer and Jessica Weber, wife of Andrew; granddaughter, Laurel; sister, Janette Groft; cousins, Jay Butler and Polly Sharp; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Sam, John, and Joyce, Mark and Cheryl, and Joe and Christie; and nieces and nephews, Matthew, Caleb, Seth, Charlie, Maggie, Justin, Rachel, Aaron, Jamie, Tamara, Amanda Keller, Jordan, and Amanda Hughes.
Barb and her family thank lifelong friends, Wanda Gunness and Joyce Rheinheimer, for their unending love and friendship throughout her life. Along with Nick’s girlfriend, Jess Metzler, they ensured that Barb was in good company and cared for, even as her health waned.
Barbara passed away after fighting a long battle with cancer. She was at home, surrounded by her husband and children. Although she still had a lot she wanted to do, she was ready to go home. She told us that “I had an amazing life. Amazing. Amazing. Amazing.”
