Beatrice E. Herr (1923-2020)

Posted October 17, 2020

Beatrice E. Herr, 96, of Lebanon, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, at St. Anne’s Retirement Community in Columbia, PA. She was the wife of the late Henry A. Herr. Born on Nov. 6, 1923, Beatrice was a daughter of the late John and Catherine (Arnold) Hartman.

Beatrice’s fondest memories were made as a child on the family farm that she was born and raised on in North Lebanon Township. She loved the mountains and the time spent with her children during family picnics and hikes at Memorial Lake. Beatrice was a faithful and active member of St. Mary’s Church in Lebanon. She enjoyed quilting at the Senior Center in Lebanon and was a devoted Phillies fan, attending her very first game with her grandson at the age of 90. Whatever Beatrice did, she did it well – whether it was playing the piano, tending to her flowerbeds, tackling crossword puzzles, or playing pinochle. And with her spelling expertise (as a proud Kimmerling’s School Spelling Bee award winner as a young girl) and her remarkably extensive vocabulary, winning a game of Scrabble against Beatrice was nearly impossible. She was a beautiful woman who took great pride in her appearance. Beatrice was well-loved and, if you were lucky enough to know her, she considered you a friend.

Beatrice is survived by two children – Robert T. Hartman, and his wife, Sandy, and Leonard H. Herr, and his wife, Kathy; three grandchildren – Sandy Peck, and her husband, Matthew, Brian Hartman, and his wife, Ann, and Timothy Hartman, and his wife, Grace; seven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Mishoe; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert M. Hartman, and a sister, Catherine Dietz.

Funeral services will be held privately with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Beatrice’s name may be made to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Dr., Lancaster, PA 17604. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. has been entrusted with arrangements.
