Beatrice Weaver Metcalf was born on Aug. 7, 1923, in Beartown, Pennsylvania, to Benjamin and Elsie Weaver.

Beatrice grew up on a farm in a close, loving family surrounded by eight brothers and sisters. The family remained close throughout their lives, each sibling marrying and rearing families of their own.

Beatrice received her master’s degree in Christian education from Wheaton College in Illinois. There, she met her husband, David A. Metcalf.

And after the birth of their two sons, Paul and Kenneth, they headed to the mission field, with Conservative Baptist Foreign Missions to develop a curriculum for a mission school in Argentina. Their daughter, Carol, was born in Costa Rica.

The family returned to the States and settled into teaching careers in suburban Philadelphia.

Beatrice had a love for Jesus that set the tone for all that she did. This could be seen in the family’s involvement in church, their support of many mission groups, and the many meals provided to neighbors and friends.

Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband, David, and son, Paul.

She is survived by her son, Ken (Cindy), of Denton, TX, and their three children,
Lindsey (Bram) Detwiler, Meredith (David) Kolsrud, and Parker; her daughter, Carol (Peter) Mayberry, Colorado Springs, CO, and their three children, Mathew (Amy), Greta (Brad) Schiffelbein, and Bruce (Beth); her son Paul’s children, David (Caitlin) and Tiffani (Joshua) Fratrik; and numerous great-grandchildren.
