Charles E. “Charlie” Shay III, 78, of Butler, IN, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, at Betz Nursing Home in Auburn, IN. Born on Dec. 11, 1946, he was the son of the late Dorothy (Ayers) and Charles E. Shay Jr.
Charlie was a 1965 graduate of Lebanon High School and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He worked for 19 years as a production supervisor at Bethlehem Steel in Lebanon, PA, then worked for 24 years as a production supervisor at Nucor Fastener in St. Joe, IN, before his retirement in 2012.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cindy (Clemens) Shay; children, Jennifer (Jeremy) Strohm and Chuck (Nadine) Shay; six grandchildren and their spouses; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Sandy), Michael (Carole), John (Alice), and Thomas Shay; and sisters, Barbara (Dave) Miller, Patricia (Paul) Reichard, and Debra Bonalle.
