Clifford Blaine Lord Jr., formerly of Aldan, PA, and Avalon, NJ, died at his residence in Palmyra, PA, on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, at the age of 100. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Adalene E.(Allen) Lord, in 2018.
Cliff was born in Philadelphia, PA, on Oct. 26, 1924, to the late Clifford B. Lord Sr. and Edna (Brown) Lord.
He was a graduate of John Bartram High School in Philadelphia, where he played catcher as part of the city champion baseball team. He joined the U.S. Army and served and fought at the Battle of the Bulge and the Hurtgen Forest in World War II. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton Business School, where he was also a member of a fraternity. He later became vice president of sales for Mushroom Transportation Company.
Cliff was a member of Aldan Union Church, where he was a Sunday School leader for many years in the junior high department and a church usher. He was an active member of the Aldan Swim Club as well as a diving coach. Always active, bowling and softball were part of his earlier life, but golf, tennis, swimming, and pickleball were major parts of his retirement life.
He retired at age 55. Cliff and his wife traveled all over the U.S. and Canada in their VW van. They loved the sun and sand and spent time between their house in Avalon, NJ, and Venture Out on Cudjoe Key in Florida, always following the sun.
Surviving are his two children, Clifford B.(Kip) Lord III (Debbie), of Stone Harbor, NJ, and Suzie Lord Linebaugh, of Oak Hill, VA; grandchildren, Tim (and Katie) Lord, and their children, Sean, Ryan, and Garrett Lord; Trevor (and Johnna) Lord, and their child, Van; Josh (and Carrie) Linebaugh, and their children, Ada and Sam; and Jonathan (and Megan) Linebaugh, and their children, Liam, Callie, and Anna.
Cliff was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Lord Salmonsen.
