Colleen Grace Sholly Cronlund, 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sept. 21, 2024, after a brief illness.
Colleen was a lifelong learner and an advocate for education. She earned her B.S. degree from Gettysburg College and her M.S. in Science Teaching from American University. Colleen continued her studies at Anne Arundel Community College throughout her life. She taught science at Twin Valley Junior High and Belair Junior High.
She was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Bowie, Maryland, for over 50 years, cherishing the friendships she built, especially with the ladies in the Agape Circle.
Her greatest joy in life was her family and was always deeply involved in her children’s lives. She treasured every opportunity to gather with them. Colleen will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and quiet strength. She touched many lives with her acts of service.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Martin H. Cronlund Jr., and their four children, Catherine Allen (Christopher), David Cronlund (Tracy), Matthew Cronlund (Frances), and Michael Cronlund (Tara). She was a beloved grandmother to eight grandchildren, Katrin Cronlund, Wayne Jacob Allen, Matthew Henry Cronlund, Adeline Cronlund, Cora Cronlund, Lillian Cronlund, Landis Cronlund, and Everett Cronlund. Colleen is also survived by her sister, Arlene Zellers; brother, Lee Sholly (Annamae); four sisters-in-law; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Gladys Sholly; brother, Warren Sholly; and brother-in-law, Reverend Earl Zellers.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 2-4 p.m., at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, Maryland. Another visitation will take place on Monday, Sept. 30, from 10-11 a.m., at Zoar Lutheran Church in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, followed by an 11 a.m. service. Interment will take place at Zion Goshert Cemetery in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation or Gettysburg College.
