Constance J. “Connie” Donkel, 87, of Myerstown, died on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, at StoneRidge Towne Centre, Myerstown. She was the wife of Thomas G. Donkel, who died Dec. 17, 2007.
Born in Stouchsburg on July 1, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Gerald S. and Helen R. (Bashore) Kessler.
Connie was a 1951 graduate of Marion Twp. High School; a 1952 graduate of Myerstown High School; and a 1954 graduate of Reading Business Institute.
A member of Tulpehocken UCC, Connie sang in the choir since she was 12 years old. She served as an elder, youth fellowship leader, and played piano in Sunday school for 40 years.
Connie was employed as a medical secretary at Dr. Fred B. Nugent, West Reading, from 1958-1966. She also worked as a surgical stenographer at Reading Hospital for four years, as a tour escort for Bieber Tours, Kutztown, for 13 years, and was a tour coordinator for the Marion Seniors.
Connie was involved in Girl Scouts for 20 years, serving as a Brownie leader. She was a member of the Neighborhood Service Team, and she was a Day Camp volunteer and Day Camp director for two years.
Connie was also a member of the Myerstown’s Women’s Club, Ladies Auxiliary of Myerstown VFW, Navy Club of Lebanon, Ladies Auxiliary, Marion Senior Citizens, AARP, and the Hershey Bears Booster Club. She enjoyed her cats and planting flowers.
She is survived by a daughter, Lisa, wife of Kevin Booth, of Myerstown; grandchildren, Jamie, wife of Mitchell LaFleur, and Christopher, husband of Lindsay Booth; and great-grandchildren, Natalie LaFleur and Landon Booth.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021 at 12 p.m. at Tulpehocken UCC, 961 Tulpehocken Rd., Richland, preceded by a viewing beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the adjoining church cemetery.
