Courtney Wayne Smyth, 80, of Leola, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on May 11, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife, MaryJo McCormick Smyth.
Born in Sayre on May 4, 1944, he was the son of the late Callender Wayne Smyth and Mary A. (Courtney) Smyth.
Courtney was a graduate of Germantown Academy, Germantown, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Submarine Service during the Vietnam War. After his service in the Navy, Courtney went on to complete his education, receiving an engineering degree with honors from Alfred University, Alfred, NY. He was employed by First Energy at Three Mile Island Nuclear Station for most of his career and retired from Bechtel Power in 2010.
Courtney was a communicant at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, New Holland. He enjoyed spending time with his loving wife, three children, and seven grandchildren, enjoyed golfing, planting and admiring trees, and as a proud American and U.S. Navy veteran, enjoyed displaying American flags.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is three children, Courtney William Smyth (Jennifer), of Hummelstown, PA, Sean Patrick Smyth (Julie), of Lebanon, PA, Kathrin Colleen Rementer (Timothy), of Morgantown, PA; seven grandchildren, Caeleigh, Brady, Ryan, Cal, Evan, Rory, and Alaina; five siblings, James Smyth, Thomas Smyth (Jolene), Mary S. Eaton, Patricia Smyth, and Jennifer Jillson (Andrew); two brothers-in-law, James McCormick (Karen) and Michael McCormick (Christine); and three sisters-in-law, Anne Roser (Chris), Eileen Canty (Dennis), and Mary Camille McHale (Patrick).
A public visitation will be held on May 21, 2024, from 10:30-11:00 a.m., with Mass to follow at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church, Annville. A Catholic burial will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Interment with military honors.
