It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Daniel J. Magazino on July 15, 2025. Whether you knew him as Dan, Dan the Man, Magz, or BunBun, he will be incredibly missed.
Born to Pam and Francis Magazino on Nov. 1, 1977, in Sacramento, CA, Dan was raised in the central Pennsylvania area from a young age. Following graduation from Central Dauphin East High School, he worked at Ames True Temper, where he made many lasting friendships. He loved the Steelers, good wings, road trips, and live music. But most of all, he loved Lindsay. Dan met Lindsay in early 2003 as he was beginning his nursing career; they were living together by that fall and married in October 2004. One year later, they welcomed their first child, and over the years, six more would follow. During that time, he earned an ADN at HACC and then a BSN at Millersville University. He worked as an RN in orthopedics, MSICU, CTICU, and even as a House Supervisor before he went on to complete a master’s level nurse anesthetist program at Bloomsburg University. During his nursing career, Dan undoubtedly saved many lives, but his most lasting legacy was in how he treated his patients and coworkers with his trademark mix of kindness, equanimity, and humor.
Despite working long hours, raising a large family, and going through a demanding CRNA program, Dan made it a point to continue to do the things he loved, like live music events and road trips, but now he could share these things with his family. He took Gigi to her first concert when she was nine, and a coworker remembered a time when he sandwiched two 16-hour shifts around a trip to Philly so he could take his daughter Frankie to a concert. Life was lived at full-bore, but he made it look easy.
Friends and family were asked for a couple of words to describe him.
“I think that everyone who met Dan found a new friend.”
“Never met a stranger. Knew most people around the hospital by name.”
“Dan always checked in on me and how work was going. Every single time we saw each other. I will always remember that and how he thought about others.”
“Educated and driven but still knew how to handle the stress and have fun.”
“A coworker you could depend on and always smiling. Kind to everyone.”
“Steadfast.”
These are not exaggerations. He was hardworking and driven. He was loyal; he loved his friends and family fiercely and cared deeply. He was smart, but so down-to-earth that it took some time to realize just how smart he was. But the one quality that comes up again and again when people talk about Dan is that he had a knack for making everyone feel like they were particularly special to him.
Dan is survived by his wife, Lindsay Mancine; daughters, Giovanna, Francesca, Graziella, Madonna, Antonina, and Gelsomina; son, Luciano; brother, Anthony; stepbrothers, Tony, Bradley, and Roger Mount; a large extended family of cousins, aunts, and uncles; and an absolute legion of friends who were all-but family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pamela Connor; and father, Francis Magazino.
Dan will live on through his wife and children, those he helped through the gift of organ donation, and the multitude of friends and family who will undoubtedly remember him lovingly and share stories and memories of the time we were so lucky to have with him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the GoFundMe set up for his wife and kids (gofund.me/ae6abbdd) and spending some time with those you love. Please also consider sharing your favorite memory of Dan in the digital guestbook, as the guestbook will be maintained permanently and the stories you share may be a comfort to those who knew him for years to come.
