David L. Wickes, 73, of Manheim, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at the WellSpan York Hospital. He was the companion of Judith A. Welker.
Born in Summerville on April 8, 1950, he was the son of Florence Anderson Wickes of Melbourne, FL, and the late Pere Wickes.
For many years, Dave was the owner/operator of his own excavating business, DLW Excavation, in Lebanon. He retired from the Air National Guard as an MSGT. He served 31 years, having served with the 193rd Special Operations Wing in Vietnam and also in Desert Shield/Storm. He was deployed 27 different times during his career. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, camping, attending sporting events for veterans, and pretty much anything outdoors. For many years, he played Santa Claus at various events.
In addition to his mother and his companion, he is survived by his son, Chad D., husband of Joyce Wickes, of Newmanstown; brothers, Pere Wickes, of CO, and Roger Wickes, of GA; and grandsons, Jacob, Dustin, and Owen Wickes, and Michael Clements.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home, Jonestown. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
