David Munro Richards, age 86, passed away on Jan. 1, 2021, peacefully at home with his wife by his side.
David was born on Aug. 5, 1934 in Alexandria, VA. He was the son of the late William Burton Richards and Alma Rebecca Richards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers; Jack, Allen, Jim, Glen, and Chuck.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cora Lou Richards, two children, Thomas David Richards, and daughter-in-law, Nicole, of Hummelstown, PA, Teresa Richards Coller, and son-in-law, Chris, of Hershey, PA, three grandsons, Sean Padraig Coller, Ryan Brett Coller, and Logan Thomas Richards, and one granddaughter, Lauren Irene Richards.
David was a graduate of George Washington High School in Alexandria and received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia in 1964. He was a Korean War Veteran, having served honorably in the U. S. Army from 1952 to 1955.
David was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lewistown and, until his death, Palm Lutheran Church in Palmyra.
Throughout his lifetime, David was actively involved in his community. In his early years, he served as a volunteer fireman and was an active leader in the Virginia Jaycee’s. After moving to Pennsylvania in 1975, David helped coach his children in their childhood sports and served as President of the Mifflin County School Board. David spent time as President of the Church Council and was a representative to the Central Pennsylvania Synod of the Lutheran Church.
In his free time, David enjoyed playing golf, listening to all types of music, and tinkering on his computer. He wintered in Myrtle Beach during his retirement years and developed many life-long friendships. He was a devoted father and grandfather and was his happiest when attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Due to COVID restrictions, all services will be private. A Celebration of Life may take place at a later date. Burial will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
