Donald (Don) E. Smith of Lebanon, PA entered the kingdom of heaven peacefully, at his home and surrounded by family on Monday, April 25th after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the loving husband of Lois (Kneasel) Smith for 65 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Vicki Dietz, (and husband Richard) of Lebanon; Craig Smith (and wife Mary Lou) of Jonestown; Jody Lebo, (and husband Jonathan) of Lebanon; Kevin Smith of Pompano Beach, FL; Audrey Miller of Lebanon; Brad Smith of Lebanon and Chad Smith of Lebanon. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. In addition, Don is survived by a brother, Ken Smith of Palmyra and sisters Carol Binkley (and husband William) of Lancaster and Joanne Reihl of Manheim.
Don was preceded in death by parents, Bessie and Earl Smith; a sister, June Herr; a brother, Clarence Smith; a granddaughter, Lacy Smith; and great grandchildren, Addison and Cole Templon.
Don was born on April 10, 1936 on the family dairy farm in Akron, PA where he grew up. He met and married his loving wife, Lois, and together had seven children. He was a member of the National Guard and worked most of his life
at Washington Street Brass and Iron Foundry as a machinist. He later became a supervisor at Modena Foundry in Coatesville, PA. After retirement, Don worked part time at Manheim Auto Auction, APR, and Lesher Mack.
Don enjoyed watching sports, coaching his sons in baseball, playing card games, working in the yard, trips to Florida to visit his son, Kevin and getting together with friends and family whenever he could. Don was famous for telling jokes and making people laugh. Don will be greatly missed.
A service is planned for Friday, May 6th at 11:00 AM at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 120 West Market Street, Jonestown, PA. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at All About You, 302 East Lehman Street, Lebanon, PA beginning at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Don can be made to the American Cancer Society. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
