Donald L. Baylor, 96, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, at Alpine Valley in Lebanon, PA. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth H. (Bentz) Baylor, with whom he would have celebrated 77 years of marriage this year.
Born in Annville on May 16, 1928, he was the son of the late Priscilla (Baylor) Longenecker.
Donald graduated from Lebanon High School with the Class of 1945. He worked at the Lebanon Post Office from 1944 to 1968. While working at the Post Office, he was on the Civil Service Testing Board. The last test he conducted was for the Air Force Academy. In 1950, he joined the PA Army National Guard and the Army Reserve. In 1968, he was offered a full-time position and accepted it. He retired from the Reserve as a platoon Sergeant in 1983.
Donald served as president of Woodland Estates for six years. He was a special police officer for Cleona Borough for eight years and Commander of the Annville American Legion in 1995, 2000, and 2001. In addition, he served as a Deputy Commander for the 19th Legion District for 12 years. He was proud to have been the oldest living commander of the Conner-Stricher Post 559.
Donald enjoyed hunting and fishing and held a full-time license. He enjoyed spending time at Rick’s Camp. More than anything else, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren, Erica, Andy, Erin, Jimmie, and Zach, and great-grandchildren, Aidan, Olivia, Ava, Matthew, and Avery. He would remark “They grow up so fast.”
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Richard A., husband of Rosemary Baylor, of Annville; daughter, Brenda S., wife of James A. Buffington Jr., of Lykens; stepbrother, Roy A. (Arlene) Longenecker, of Annville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his stepbrother, Carl B. Longenecker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at Kreamer Funeral Home, 618 E. Main St., Annville. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. to the start of the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
