Dorothy A. (Berger) Moyer, of Myerstown, PA, died peacefully on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John E. Moyer.

Dorothy was born in Allentown, PA, on Nov. 14, 1933, the daughter of the late Wallace and Irene (Geiger) Berger. She was preceded in death by three siblings: a sister, Patricia Kvochak, of Wilmington, and two brothers, Carlton, of Allentown, and Richard, also of Allentown.

As a young woman, Dorothy played an active leadership role in the life of the youth program of Seibert Evangelical Congregational Church. She and another young person, John E. Moyer, fell in love, and after a four-year courtship, they were married in Seibert Church in September 1954.

Dorothy received encouragement from her father and sister to prepare for a career in nursing. After her graduation from Allentown High School, she enrolled in the Allentown General Hospital School of Nursing. She and John were married in September 1954. In that year, the couple began their careers, John as a licensed pastor of St. John’s Evangelical Congregational Church, Catasauqua, and Dorothy as a registered nurse employed by the Allentown General Hospital.

Their first son, John P., was born in September 1955. While her husband continued his preparation for pastoral ministry, Dorothy took up housekeeping and the care of their newborn son. She also found the responsibilities of church life to be satisfying. Her work with the children focused on Vacation Bible School, and she helped cultivate an interest in missions with the Sunday school youth. In each of these areas, Dotty and John served together effectively in the congregations to which they were assigned. In addition to a five-year pastorate in Columbia, they served for four years in the Trinity EC Church, Pottstown, and nine years in St. Matthews Church, Emmaus. When the church assigned John to administrative work, the family continued to worship at St. Luke’s EC Church in Shillington.

This pastor’s wife also continued to minister in the calling to which she was set apart by God. Nursing was an important part of that life. For 21 years, she was a valuable asset to the service of ECC Retirement Village. Three sons, John P., David L., and Timothy A., were born to this couple. Besides the tasks of parenting and parish ministry, her time was filled with baking, making candy, and reading.

John and Dotty retired in 1998. In retirement, her care for those in need continued as Dotty became a hospice volunteer for Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, for 20 years. In recent years, Dotty was an active member of Christ Community Church in Myerstown.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, John Moyer, husband of Kim, David Moyer, husband of Alison, and Tim Moyer; grandchildren, Jason Moyer (Amy), Gwenn Dando (Will), Justin Moyer (Emma), Alex Moyer, Danny Moyer, Meredith Labban (Jamie), Stephanie Fessler (Sean), and Madison Moyer; great-grandchildren, Monica Wagner (Anton), Jackie Worthman (Max), Skyler Pearson (Kinlyn), William Dando, Libby Dando, Gentry Moyer, Sutton Moyer, Beckham Moyer, and Moyer Labban; and great-great-grandchildren, Brady Wagner and Bennett and Harper Worthman.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Christ Community Church, 121 S. College St., Myerstown, PA 17067, followed by a luncheon at Dotty’s home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Community Church at the above-stated address.
