Edward C. “Ed” Hartmann II, Myerstown, died October 10, 2021, at age 79, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Born in Philadelphia and raised in Frederick, Maryland, Ed was the son of the late Edward C. Hartmann and Kathryn “Kay” (Moser) Hartmann. Ed was a graduate of Frederick High School (1959) and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963. He graduated from the U.S. Army Intelligence School, Fort Holabird, Maryland, in 1964.

For 33 years, Ed was the water plant operator at the PA Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution, Camp Hill, retiring in 2007. For 42 years, Ed also served the people of Heidelberg Township, Lebanon County, as the Water Operations Manager, Heidelberg Township Municipal Authority, retiring in 2015. He also served as Treasurer for the Municipal Authority.

Ed lived in Schaefferstown for many years, before moving to Myerstown 19 years ago. In retirement, Ed worked at the Manheim Auto Auction, where he enjoyed getting behind the wheel of so many diverse vehicles, and volunteered at Good Samaritan Hospital (putting his water operations expertise to use), and at the Lebanon VA Medical Center.

Ed is survived by his wife of 30 years, Charlene A. (Ernesto) Hartmann, his son Perry and wife Sharon, Milford, PA, and their children Garrett and Sierra; a sister, Judy Hartmann, North Tonawanda, NY. Ed was predeceased by his son, Matthew. Ed is also survived by Charlene’s sons Sean Fisher and his wife Anne, Melrose, MA; and Jason Fisher and his wife Lan, of Singapore and La Jolla, CA, and their children Ethan and Emily, both of New York City.

Arrangements were handled by Clauser Funeral Home, Schaefferstown. The burial service will be private.
