Edward Kenneth Darrow, 77, of Lake Harmony, PA, formerly of Glenside, PA, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2022, surrounded by his loving family in the Lebanon VA Eagle Hospice Center. He was the husband of Vicki (Roth) Darrow whom he shared 55 years of fun and joy.
Ed, son of Lloyd and Katherine (Burns) Darrow was born on May 1, 1945, in Utica, NY.
Ed grew up in Glenside, PA, and graduated from Abington Senior High School in 1963. He served the United States Army as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, a Bronze Star, and numerous other air medals. He earned a B.S. in Business from St. Joseph’s University in 1972. Following his active time in the military, he continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves, flying out of Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove, while also building a manufacturing business in Montgomery Township. During his time as president/owner of Country Furniture, Inc., Ed was integral in opening Pennsylvania exports to Asia to benefit independent businesses.
Ed was always an active member of his communities. In Glenside, he was a volunteer firefighter with the Weldon Fire Company starting in 1962. He served the Fire Department of Montgomery Township as a business owner and volunteer, and in his retirement joined the Lake Harmony Fire Department and held various roles, including president. Ed was bestowed the Kidder Township First Responder award in 2016. Later in life, Ed loved ski instructing at Jack Frost Ski Resort where he made sure his granddaughters could ski shortly after they could walk.
In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his children, E. Keith Darrow, husband of Lori, New Hope, PA, and Katie Long, wife of Douglas, Sinking Spring, PA. As well as his grandchildren, Caroline and Elizabeth Long and Willa and Ethan Darrow.
Burial services with full military honors will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA, on Wednesday, June 8, at 11:30 AM. Luncheon to follow.
