At the age of 86, Eleanor Patricia (Volk) Gassert passed away peacefully in her home on July 28th at 12:38 p.m. When she took her last breath, her youngest daughter was by her side. Eleanor lived in Lebanon, PA, her entire life and lived in the same home for 65 years; her youngest daughter lived next to her.
Eleanor was a graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School, class of 1951. She worked at Cedar Haven Healthcare Center for many years, caring for the aging.
She is survived by three daughters and a son: Patricia Louise, Susan Marie, Karen Kaye, and Joseph Michael. She is also survived by three sons-in-law and a daughter-in-law: Gary, William, Jorge, and Joyce. Additionally, she is survived by seven grandchildren: Brian Anderson, Caitlin Anderson, Amanda Anderson, Nathan Gassert, Katie McKnight, Darius Ramos, and Eric Althouse. Eleanor also has three great-grandchildren: Max, Dominic, and Lucy Anderson, all under the age of six. A fourth great-grandson will be born in August.
She is preceded by her husband, Kenneth Henry; her parents, Joseph and Helen Volk; a grandson, Bradley John Anderson; two sisters, Josephine and Dorothy; and two brothers, Richard and Robert.
Eleanor was a devout Catholic, who was a member of Lebanon’s St. Mary’s Church, but she often attended St. Cecelia’s on Lehman St. with her daughter and son-in-law.
Eleanor, a beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend will be dearly missed, but we know she is gloriously happy with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and all who have preceded her. We love you. Be at peace. Be with God. We will meet again.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4th at St. Mary’s Church, 2 N. 8th St., Lebanon, PA 17046. Interment will be held privately at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
