Frank Wilbur Deaner, 86, of Lebanon, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Kay A. (Shellenberger) Deaner, with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Frank was born in Bloomsburg, PA, on Dec. 26, 1938, to the late Melvin and Florence (Johnson) Deaner. He was a graduate of Bloomsburg University, where he obtained his master’s degree in education. He was a high school business teacher for the Eastern Lebanon County School District from 1961 to 1991. While there, he also ran the school store. Following his retirement, he was the Good Samaritan Hospital gift shop manager from 1996 to 2000. He was first a member of The Reformed Church in Catawissa, where he was a Sunday school teacher, member of the youth fellowship, choir director, and sang in the church barbershop quartet. Then in 1964, Frank became a member of Tabor UCC, where he was a church elder, Sunday school superintendent, and sang in the choir. In 2014, Frank became a member of Quentin UCC, where he sang in the choir until 2024.
Frank was involved with Boy Scout Troop #9. For many years, he was the Troop’s Committee Chairman. He was also a Merit Badge Counselor and Committee Transportation Chairman. He was a member of The Tall Cedars of Lebanon from 1967 to 2022, when it disbanded. For many years, he served as their treasurer. He was Judge of Elections, North Cornwall South Lebanon County, for 28 years.
In 1991, Frank joined the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) and Lebanon County Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. He served as LEBCO’s treasurer until 2019. He was treasurer of the Lebanon Association United Church of Christ for two terms and secretary for one term. In 1961, he joined Washington Masonic Lodge 265 in Bloomsburg. In 2016, he became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lebanon Chapter #115.
Awards he received included Lebanon PASR Volunteer of the Year, Tabor UCC Father of the Year, and Lebanon Education Honor Society.
Frank was known to enjoy camping, hunting, reading, doing Sudoku puzzles and word searches, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his children, Myles R. Deaner (Traci), of Fredericksburg, Stephanie L. Deaner (Mark Tobias), of Goldsboro, NC, and Vincent W. Deaner, of Lebanon; grandchildren, Andrew N. Deaner, Megan D. Tobias, Kailey W. Deaner, and Ryan D. Tobias, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Jacqueline Deaner, Melvina Carl, and Phyllis Fisher.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 618 E. Main St., Annville. There will be a Masonic Service and an Order of the Eastern Star service to begin at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will then be held at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
