Frederick C. “Fred” Lutz, 69, of Hershey and formerly of Fredericksburg, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, at his home after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Lebanon on Sept. 4, 1956, he was the only son of the late Carl F. Lutz and the devoted son of the late Frances M. (Swope) Lutz. Fred cared for his mother until her death in 2025. He was a graduate of Northern Lebanon High School Class of 1974, where he played soccer and baseball. Fred was an excellent athlete, and he was a member of the 1971 Fredericksburg Jr. Legion Baseball Championship Team.

Fred retired from The Hershey Company, Reese Plant. While working at Reese, Fred had a small lawn care business on the side. He also owned and managed several rental properties in Hershey.

Fred was a student of the Civil War. He was a rock and roll fan, particularly of Bruce Springsteen and The Beatles, and he most recently attended a Paul McCartney concert in Pittsburgh. He followed politics and current events, the stock market, and his beloved Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

He is survived by his aunts, Nancy (John) Rhen and Barbara (Tom) Trainor; uncle, Barry (Cheryl) Lutz; step-sister, Melissa Daub; step-brother, Scott Lutz; and numerous cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunts, Arlene (Ray) Deck, Anna Swope, Florence Gerhart, Rosemary Thierwechter, Irene Sweigart, and Connie Martin; and uncles, Eugene Swope, William Lutz, Robert Lutz, and Franklin Lutz.
