Frederick S. “Fred” Carpenter, 78, of Palmyra, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was the husband of Anne M. (Beuchler) Carpenter, with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Fred was born in Lebanon on Feb. 1, 1947, to the late Simon and Elsie (Magni) Carpenter.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Fred was a dispatcher for Lebanon County and Derry Township. He was appointed EMA Director of Palmyra in March 1979 and resigned as EMA Director in November 2001. He was elected to Palmyra Borough Council in November 1987, sworn in to the position in January 1988, served until December 2007, reappointed to Council in July 2008, and served until June 2010. He was appointed the Palmyra Mayor in June 2010 and resigned from the position in January 2025. Fred was the coordinator for the carnivals in Palmyra at the Fireman’s Park and involved with the parades in the community. He was all about service to his community. He also enjoyed visiting the shore and going grocery shopping. He was all about finding a good deal.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his children, Michael T. Carpenter, of Mechanicsburg, and Amanda L. “Mandy” Pfeiffer, of Quentin; grandchildren, Jesse, Megan, and Savannah; and siblings, Harry Carpenter (Jan), of Palmyra, and Dorothea Yordy (Dan), of Lebanon.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Randy Carpenter, Bob Carpenter, Kenneth Williams, and Judy Sisko.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 618 E. Main St., Annville. Interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with military honors. There will be a viewing held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home. There will be a viewing held on Monday morning from 10-11 a.m., at the funeral home.
