Gary E. Smith, 75, of Myerstown, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, in the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Donna Faye Smith nee Clark, with whom he celebrated a 47th wedding anniversary in October.
He was born in Lebanon on Dec. 5, 1946, a son of the late Earl R. and Anna M. Meily Smith.
Gary was a proud veteran, having served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Hugh Purvis. He also served in the PA Air National Guard. He was retired from ALCOA and the Hershey Company.
Gary attended Ono U.M. Church, and he was a member of the NRA and the Jonestown American Legion. He was a life member of the USS Hugh Purvis Reunion Association and had served on the board of the Lebanon Federal Credit Union for 34 years. He was an avid hunter who cheered for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Football teams; and he enjoyed eating at many different restaurants with Donna.
In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by sisters, Maryann, wife of Reginald Daubert, Nancy wife of Robert Leed, and Sandy Carpenter. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Michael Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Rohland Funeral Home, 508 Cumberland St., Lebanon, PA 17042, with a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Kochenderfer’s Cemetery.
