George A. Speck, 98, of Jonestown, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Gloria F. (Dunn) Speck. They would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on July 16.
Born in Bordnersville on Dec. 18, 1925, he was the son of the late Ralph E. and Florence M. (Long) Speck.
George graduated from Jonestown High School with the Class of 1944. He served his country in the Army during WWII, receiving four medals. He was a lifetime member of Salem Walmer’s Lutheran Church. George was a foreman and mechanic with PennDOT and other companies while farming most of his life. He enjoyed racing Sprint cars and modifieds on the dirt tracks in the area while winning seven championships. George was an avid music lover and would play big band and gospel hymns on the piano for his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Kathy S., wife of Craig Steiner, of Jonestown, James A., husband of Karen Speck, of Ono, and Lynn M., wife of Ronald Heffner, of Pine Grove, and stepson, Michael A., husband of Rose Dunn, of Jonestown; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mary Jane Wolfe, of Jonestown.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Salem Walmer’s Church Cemetery, 25 Coulter Road, Annville, PA 17003.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Salem Walmer’s Lutheran Church in memory of George.
