George C. Chobanoff, 87, of Lebanon, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Cedar Haven. He was the husband of the late Doris F. Wikel Chobanoff.
Born in Lebanon on February 11, 1936, he was the son of the late Milan and Anna Fruhwirth Chobanoff.
Following high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He served in the Army National Guard, and, in 1993, he retired from the Red Horse Div. of the Air National Guard. George had worked for Cornwall Mines and then retired from Lebanon Valley Ceilings & Partitions. Following retirement, he drove bus for Northern Lebanon and worked for the Merchandiser. He attended the Mountville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and camping and watching NASCAR and the Philadelphia Eagles. During the ’60s and ’70s, he was on the pit crew with the former Bobby Hauer Racing Team at many local dirt tracks.
He is survived by his son, Michael K., husband of Maureen Chobanoff, of Greenfield, WI; daughters, Susan D., wife of the late Earl Evans, of Annville, and Kristy D., wife of Ricky Bugg, of Fredericksburg; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Edward Chobanoff.
Memorial services will be at 12 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
