George J. Bixler, 69, of Cleona, passed away at home in the early hours of April 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on March 9, 1957, in Schuylkill County to the late Esther and Carl Bixler.
George was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose life was defined by loyalty, hard work, and deep love for his family. He shared just shy of 50 years of marriage with the love of his life, Susan, and together, they built a marriage rooted in unconditional love, commitment, and partnership. That love became the foundation of a family that meant everything to him.
George was a proud father and an adoring grandfather to five grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy. Few things made him happier than time spent with his family, sharing stories, laughter, and the simple moments.
George had a lifelong love of music and concerts, a passion he proudly passed down to his children. He loved riding every roller coaster at Hersheypark each season, was an avid collector of older toys, Hot Wheels, Legos, and American bricks, and appreciated the nostalgia and craftsmanship behind the things he loved.
George’s work ethic and dedication were evident throughout his life. He served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and was honorably discharged as an E-5. He went on to build a long and respected career in plant operations and technical work, including many years at Three Mile Island Nuclear Station in roles ranging from operator to instructor and operations engineering assistant. He later continued his career at Hershey Medical Center’s Central Heating and Cooling Plant, where he worked for many years as a Utility Equipment Operator.
Those who knew George knew him as a man of tremendous knowledge, perseverance, and pride in doing things the right way. He will be remembered for his strength, his steady presence, his love for his family, and the many pieces of himself he passed down to those who loved him most.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Susan M. Bixler; children, Michael Bixler, husband of Jennifer Bixler, Samantha L. Osterlof, wife of Ryan Osterlof, and Lisa Bixler; and cherished grandchildren, Chase, Evan, Khloe, Harrison, and Jackson.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 11 a.m., at Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown, PA. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m.
