George S. Speece, 86, of Lebanon, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024, at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.

Born in Lebanon on Feb. 22, 1938, he was the son of the late Sylvester J. and Lois M. Reichard Speece. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force. George worked for the Lebanon Daily News and then worked in maintenance and as a truck driver for Fort Indiantown Gap. George enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, baking, walking, and fishing, and he loved attending his granddaughters’ sporting events.

He is survived by his children, Scott Speece, of Lebanon, Todd Speece, of Lebanon, Deidre Mertz, of Green Point, and LeeAnn Speece, of Lebanon; brother, Harry Speece, of Lebanon; sister, Patricia Fisher, of Lebanon; grandchildren, Jocelyn Mertz, and Derek, Josh, and Matthew Speece; great-grandchildren, Liam, Nolan, Cora, and Annie; and longtime companion, Susan M. Plasterer, of Lebanon, and her daughter, Amy, wife of Eric McCorkel, of Benton, and their children, Luke, Nolan, and Olivia. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Sandra Dove Speece; and sister, Susie Snyder.

Inurnment with military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date.
