George W. Heist Sr., 74, of Lebanon, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at his home. He was the husband of Marian L. Sonon Heist. They would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on Dec. 3.

Born in Lebanon on July 6, 1950, he was the son of the late Donald E. and Julia P. Gaidos Heist.

For many years, George was the owner and operator of H & S Automotive in Lebanon and GW Transport. Most recently, he was working for PennDOT as a truck driver. He loved dirt track racing, and he especially enjoyed doing it with his grandson, Steve Whary, and great-grandson, Aiden Lutz. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and he enjoyed working around the house.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Robert (Angie) Heist, of Lebanon, John R. (Penny) Whary, of Lebanon, and Charles L. Whary, of Lebanon; daughter, Melissa Evans, of Ohio; sisters, Anna Boyer, of Lebanon, Grace Johnson, of Elizabethtown, and Joyce Reinhart, of Lebanon; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, George W. Heist Jr.; daughter, Theresa Heist-Nicholas; brothers, Charles, Donald, and Richard Heist; and sisters, Dorothy Heist and Mary Lou Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Kochenderfer’s Cemetery.
