Gerald J. Esser, 89, of Lebanon, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at home, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on Wednesday, October 25, 1933, to the late Stewart Esser Sr. and Florence T. Esser nee Foreman in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Gerald served our country in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and re-enlisted in the Army to continue his military service. He was a construction machine operator in the military until his retirement after 30 years in April of 1971. Gerald liked to drive buses, fish, bowl, and, in his younger years, enjoy a nice cigar.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marvine A. Esser nee Gilmer; eight children; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters, Judy Conrad, Karen Wheeler, and Pearl Sauders.

He is predeceased by children, Jerry Esser Jr. (Jocko) and Karen Esser; and brothers, Eddie Esser, Stewart Esser, and Leonard Esser.

Visitation will be held at Christman’s Funeral Home, 226 Cumberland St., Lebanon, on Friday, July 14, 2023, starting at 12 PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 1 PM. A Graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Military Honors.
