Gladys M. Martin, of Cleona, PA, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be forever cherished for her warm smile and kind heart. Surrounded by loved ones, she left this world suddenly on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, at the age of 93. She is preceded in death by her husband, the late Robert H. “Pepper” Martin, who passed away in 2014.
Gladys was born in North Annville Township on Oct. 20, 1931, to the late Irvin and Almeda (Herr) Meyer.
Gladys was a secretary for the Lebanon County Superintendent’s Office and the Annville Cleona School District, where she took pride in supporting students and her community. A member of Hill Lutheran Church in Cleona, Gladys formerly served as church secretary and was a lifetime member of The Order of the Eastern Star Lebanon Chapter.
With an inquisitive mind and a knack for pattern recognition, Gladys was fond of playing cards and Sudoku. She shared her love of jigsaw puzzles with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, inspiring the next generation of family puzzlers. She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. The simplest of pleasures brought great joy to Gladys. She especially enjoyed flower gardening, visiting with friends, and bargain hunting. Gladys loved the beach and held memories of trips to the seashore close to her heart. Most of all, she adored her family and cherished time spent together.
She is survived by her children, Samuel A. Martin, of Sugar Land, TX, and Sally M. George, and her husband, Dennis, of Annville; grandchildren, Sarah J. Leonard (Erik), Erin K. Lingle (Joseph), and Steven Robert George (Brooke); great-grandchildren, Sylvia Pepper, Vincent, Annabelle, Charlotte, and Natalie; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Martin, Irvin, Arthur, and J. Henry Meyer, Almeda Horst, Marian Spang, Ruth Maulfair, and Grace Waltz.
