Harold L. Bates, 94, of Kindred Place, Annville, and formerly of Ono, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of the late Naomi Pearle Reese Bates.
Born in Reading on November 11, 1927, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Mabel C. Haldeman Bates.
Harold retired in 1983 from Bethlehem Steel after 35 years of service. He also served as the Interim Pastor at the Campbelltown Bible Church. He enjoyed woodworking, and for many years, he was the Boy Scout Master for Ono Troop 22. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.
He is survived by his children Ronald L., husband of Barbara J. Bates of Sinking Spring, Cynthia F. wife of Donald R. Krall of Linglestown, Robin K. Pearson of Annville, and Jeffrey E., husband of Rita Bates of Palmyra; grandchildren Rhonda L. (Bates), wife of Bruce O’Byrne of Millersville, Torrey L. husband of Rachel Bates of Sinking Spring, Melissa R. (Krall) wife of Daniel Cochran of Monroe, NC, Jason A. husband of Elizabeth Krall of Morgantown and Tyler L. Bates of Palmyra; great-grandchildren Alexandra G. Hadfield, Delaney R. Cochran, Maggie G. Krall, Holly M. Krall, Dara Nuebling Bates, Reese E. Cochran, Asher C. Hadfield, and Campbell A. Krall; and great-great-granddaughter Nova Marie Hadfield Butler.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. A viewing will be held beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
