Harold W. Schamber, 94, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Betty J. (Miller) Schamber, who passed away in 2000.
Born in Fredericksburg on Dec. 30, 1930, Harold was the son of the late Ralph and Ruth (Wenger) Schamber. He served in the Army during the Korean War. During his working years, he worked as a steelworker for HARSCO. He was a member of the Shellsville VFW.
Harold is survived by his son, Donald W., husband of Sheila Schamber, of Dennis, MA; stepsons, Larry F. Mengel, and his partner, Maureen Caldwell, of Hummelstown, John H., husband of Patricia Mengel, of Jonestown, Charles T. Mengel, of Fredericksburg, and Michael L., husband of Debra Mengel, of Fredericksburg; son-in-law, George Reinbold, of Pine Grove, and his late daughter, Fern L. Reinbold; grandchildren, Andrew and Matthew Schamber, Jill and Douglas Mengel, Andrew and Michael Caldwell, Kristopher Mengel, Steven and Charles Mengel Jr., Joseph Mengel and Jessica (Mengel) Kumar, Stephanie (Reinbold) Lutz, and Dustin Reinbold; and sister, Andora Miller, of Sylva, NC.
Harold was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene R. Schamber; and sisters, Marian Deaven, Miriam Bordner, and Pauline Zellers.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 10 a.m., at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home, Jonestown. The viewing will be held on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. to the start of the service on Saturday. Interment will be at Union Salem Cemetery following the service.
