Howard Lawrence “Larry” Ford Jr., 77, of Lititz, passed away peacefully on Oct. 13, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Richmond, VA, he was the oldest son of Thelma (Corthon) Ford and the late Howard Ford “Lawrence” Sr.

A graduate of Douglas Freeman High School in Richmond, Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1971, spending most of his service in Japan and New Mexico as a crew chief on F-4 fighters. Following his service, he pursued his passion for agriculture, a love formed as a child working on family farms, and earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science from Virginia Tech.

Larry’s greatest joys in life were his family, horses, and putting his hands to good use. He had a deep love for all animals, especially his three horses, Rocket, Nick, and Ginger, and his faithful canine companion, Gracie. His beloved truck was never without several tool boxes, a lasso, or western music cassettes. His ideal day would be spent riding a tractor, in the saddle, or cuddling Gracie. He embraced the western lifestyle wholeheartedly and lived by a set of principles that placed God, his family, helping others, and honest hard work at the center of everything he did.

In addition to his mother, Larry is survived by his children, Lisa Ford (Andrew Horgan) and Daniel Ford (Danielle); grandchildren, Roman and Evan Ford; brother, Donald “Donnie” Ford (Joyce); special friend, Rosemary Ford; and nephew and nieces, Douglas, Melissa, and Kimberly. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Ford.

Larry’s family is immensely proud of the man he was and the life he lived. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services will take place on Friday, Oct. 24, at 12 p.m., at Westhampton Memorial & Cremation Park in Richmond, VA, followed by a reception at Ridge Baptist Church located at 1515 Eastridge Road, Henrico, VA 23229. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in Larry’s name to Greystone Manor Therapeutic Riding Center.
