Ian Anton Markey went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, May 20, 2024, in the hospital after complications from injuries sustained in a rainy day car accident.

Ian was born on Nov. 6, 1978, to William A. Markey Sr. and Ruth Ann Markey.

He graduated from Northern Lebanon High School and attended Harrisburg Area Community College. He loved his son, Cole, and cherished time with his family. He enjoyed many adventures, like riding the rides at Hershey Park with his sisters, son, nephews, and nieces. Ian especially enjoyed large family gatherings with his entire extended family and always took time to check in on everyone. Ian loved the Lord and fellowship time with his church family at Palmyra Grace Church and other churches he attended over the years. He loved trains, working on cars, and writing poetry and short stories. Ian’s favorite holiday was Christmas and was like Clark Griswold from his favorite holiday movie. He gave Christmas trees and gifts to others who were in need, decorated people’s homes with Christmas lights, and shared the real meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus. Ian also loved his country and celebrated the 4th of July. He was the “Fireworks Display Extraordinaire,” who everyone called on for their 4th of July supply needs if they weren’t able to enjoy seeing one of Ian’s Fourth of July fireworks shows. Ian once owned his own towing company because he loved driving truck and helping others who were in need. Ian was a loving, kindhearted, thoughtful, and giving man with a fun, playful disposition.

Ian is survived by his son, Cole Markey; sisters, Deena George, Inez, Goldberg, Tammy Smith, Sonya, and Quezada; brothers, Adrien Markey, Bill Markey Jr., and Walter Whitley; an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Robert, and Frankleen Gibson Sr.; as well as his many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

He is preceded in death and reunited in heaven with his father, William A. Markey Sr.; mother, Ruth Ann Markey Gibson; and step-father, Richard Gibson.

Services will be held at Palmyra Grace Church, 799 Airport Road, Palmyra, PA 17078, on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Calling hour is at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m.
