Irene D. Atkins, 95, of Annville, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, at the Lebanon Valley Home. She was the wife of Russell L. Atkins. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this past June 2.

Born in Ono on Nov. 28, 1928, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Annie S. (Emrich) Houtz.

She graduated from Lebanon High School with the Class of 1947. She attended Jonestown Bible Church and Lebanon Valley Bible Church. Irene enjoyed reading, taking road trips with Russell, and doing jigsaw puzzles. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, James R., husband of Deborah L. Atkins, of Lebanon, Richard H. Atkins, of Lebanon, Phillip E., husband of Karen Atkins, of Emmaus, and the late William C., husband of Judy L. Atkins; daughter, Patricia A., wife of Ray Bachman, of Lebanon; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Anne Remley, of Cornwall, and Ruth Marie, wife of Wasel Schpuntow, of Annville.

In addition to her son, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jamie Lynn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, at Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
