J. Bashore “J.B.” Yorty, 87, of Cornwall died Friday, June 10, 2022, at Cornwall Manor.
Born in Harpers, PA on January 29, 1935, he was the son of the late J. Myles and Margaret (Bashore) Yorty.
J.B. graduated from Northern Lebanon High School, Lebanon Valley College with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, and Penn State University with a Master’s degree. He was a member of Palm Lutheran Church in Palmyra and taught Music at Palmyra Area Schools for 39 years.
J.B. was well-known in Lebanon County for playing organ and piano in numerous local churches, including 41 years as the organist and music director at Covenant United Methodist Church in Lebanon. He was a member of the Zembo Shriners, the Lebanon County Educational Honor Society, the Mt. Gretna Area Historical Society, the Scottish Rite Consistory, Mt. Lebanon Lodge No. 226, and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. J.B. was also a member of the Harmonia Music Club, where he was honored as an Outstanding Musician in the Lebanon Area. He was on the Board of the Lebanon County Community Concerts for 41 years, played in Big Band Nostalgia for 10 years, and was the head usher for summer programs of Music in Gretna. He received the Musicians Hall of Fame Award.
J.B. will be dearly missed by many cousins and many treasured friends.
A public visitation will be held from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Palm Lutheran Church, 11 W. Cherry St. Palmyra, PA 17078. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the charity of your choice in J.B.’s memory. Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, Annville is overseeing arrangements.
